  • Meeting TINA in München / 4.7. - 5.7.1998

    Saturday

(9:55) Düsseldorf / Three Tina-fans from the Ruhr Valley are heading south, the exact destination is Munich where Tina will perform "Cose della vita" and "The best" at the Königsplatz. Lars Noack and me will take the plane while Ralf Höhn is already on the way by car.

(11:10) After the short flight of 55 minutes we arrive at Munich where we team up with Susan and Karen, two Dutch fans who we have never met before so we are well prepared wearing Tina-shirts in order not to miss us like during the fanclub-day.

(12:15) Susan and Karen manage to get a room in our hotel. Ralf has left a message that he will be at the hotel at 14:00 so that Lars and Marco hurry to find some CD-stores in Munich. Unfortunately we get lost so that we return to the hotel at 14:06 when Ralf is already gone. We spend 10 minutes waiting for him but he does not come back, so try to conquer the city once more.

(15:30) After we have met Susan and Karen at a CD-store, we are searching for another CD-store when Lars whispers to me:"Doesn´t look the man standing over there like Erwin Bach?" I can not believe this even if the similarity is astonishing. The look-alike is chatting with a a second man and two little children. After a short reflexion I decide to find out immediately if he is Erwin or not. "Are you Erwin Bach?" I asked. "No", he replied without being astonished in any way so that his mysterious identity is completely clear for us and he does not hesitate to add a new proof by handing out concert-tickets to the second man.

(15:45) We follow the two men and the two little children for almost an quarter of an hour across the city, passing shops, cafes and alleyways until we reach the Hotel Rafael where Tina is usually staying when she is in Munich. Another eight German fans from Rügen, Cologne, Bremen and Hamburg are already waiting for Tina outside the Rafael who inform us about the situation: the two cars which Tina and James use are a black van and - as usual - a Mercedes from Stuttgart. We call it "the green Benz" (number plate: S - MR - 5440).

(16:15) After the arrival of Joe Cocker suddenly James gets in the black van and disappears at the next corner. We all get excited because surely the green Benz is waiting for Tina. We are right.

(16:20) The unfriendly driver and somebody of the hotel staff leave the house and order us to move back. Then suddenly Tina rushes out of the main entrance, greets us and jumps in the car. We all drive crazy because we have seen Tina just passing by at a distance of only one metre! When we have discussed this first highlight of our stay in Munich the big group splits up and we decide to shop a little until we change our minds and prefer to visit the Königsplatz. When the distance to Königsplatz has decreased to only 200 metres the wind enables to me to hear - TamTamTam - the intro of "Cose della vita". Lars talks to me without any reaction - TamTamTam. "Lars", I say, "listen!" TamTamTam "What?" he asks. TamTamTam. "They´re rehearsing", I shout, and then the song continues and Eros starts singing the first stanza. We run as we have never run in our lives before around the whole place so as to reach its back and to attend the rehearsal. Tina is dressed in blue, joking that the will do the reprise of "The best" even if the crowd replies "no".

(17:25) Tina leaves the stage and disappears in the green Benz. We are totally impressed by this exclusive show and by the thrilling thought that "Cose della vita" will only be performed officially three times (Milan and twice in Munich), whereas we will hear it five times.

(17:55) We have a shower and change in a hurry to get back at Königsplatz.

(18:45) Our little group leaves their hotel.

    (19:00) Arrival at Königsplatz.

(20:45) The concerts begins a quarter of an hour behind schedule and Eros proves to be completely boring. The rain only contributes to the atmosphere until Joe Cocker´s perfomance wakes up some people. We all have to suffer from the longest support group of the world until finally - TamTamTam - the intro of "Cose della vita" is played and 16000 people jump up to catch every second of Tina´s brilliant perfomance. Even if she messes up her Italian verse and forgets the last line of "The best" her sexy and glittering dress, her rough voice and the energy she presents make all the long waiting worthwile. Two big bouquets of flowers are brought on the stage during the duet. When she anounces "The best" by declaring "You know why I am here? I´m here because Eros is simply the best" everybody screams and shouts. "The best" is fantastic and bursting with energy as usual, nearly everybody joined in the chorus and for the first time during the concert groups of people are shouting a name - Tina-Tina, of course.

(23:00) The show has reached its end, we are all happy and ready to follow Tina everywhere so we head towards the Rafael and wait until 2 a.m. but Tina remains invisible.

    Sunday

(9:45) After a five hours´ sleep we arrive back at the hotel. Nobody is there exept Lars and Marco. So we put some of the chairs of the pub in the "right" direction in order to observe the main entrance from the other side of the street. We only find out that there must be a garage of the hotel in block where the pub is situated. After an inspection of this block we find at its back the entrance of a multi-storey car park containing 6 floors. We will do the "walk of snakes" (as we call the examination of all parking levels) several times this day in order to find out if the green Benz is parked anywhere. Its usual parking space is number 218 as we find out now.

(11:00) Susan and Karen arrive at the pub and support us being on guard. Passersby look askance at our little group sitting below the awning of a closed pub.

(12:00) We withdraw to our hotel in order to have a bit to eat.

(14:15) Meanwhile, the other German fans have massed together at the pub sitting inside drinking capuccino and keep the main entrance under observation. James has already left the hotel so we suppose Tina to get out within the next ten minutes.

(14:30) The green Benz is parked in front of the main entrance. We pay our capuccini and cross the street in order to wait next the entrance but we are urged to wait at the other side of the street. We follow the instruction until Tina appears in the foyer. Then she darts at the car telling us:"I´m late. After!" When the car sneaks off she slides her window down, forces the driver to slow down and shakes hand with us! We are all crazy when the green Benz turns left at the next corner.

(15:00) Marco and Lars attend the rehearsal but Tina does not enter the stage. After the rehearsal Susan and Karen have to hurry up to get their plane for Rotterdam.

(16:00) We hold out until the rehearsal´s end and take the subway to Odeonplatz where the restaurant Käfer is situated. Tina is a regular there when she is in Munich but even this address does not lead us to the queen herself.

(16:35) We arrive at the Rafael where the other fans are still on the alert. Some minutes later they decide to go back to their hotel to have diner and a shower so that we are now alone at the Rafael unsure what to do. Our insecurity lasts only for a few moments because the green Bentz immediately turns round the corner after the other fans have just vanished. The green Benz comes to a standstill only two metres next to us, and Erwin gets out looking daggers at me. I pluck up some courage and ask Tina for an autograph on the Dutch advertising booklets that Susan and Karen has given us the day before. We have nothing brought with us as we never have thought of getting an autograph by Tina before our very eyes. "Quick, quick, quick", she says and scibbles her name on each leaflet of Nationale Nederlanden while my heart was in my mouth. Then she she gets into the hotel and leaves us completely confused and enthusiastic. I nearly fell over backwards that one of my wildest dreams had come true. As holding a pirate treasure in our hands we run to the other fans - only fifty metres away - who are standing at the next pub.

(17:15) We have a shower and change clothes.

(19:20) Back at the Rafael, we try to get a glimpse of Tina while leaving for the concert, but even if the two cars are parked in front of the building Tina does not appear. Only the unfriendly driver leaves the hotel in order to eat a McDonald´s which is two blocks away and Roger gets in the van and leaves the scene.

(21:05) As the show has already begun we decide to go to Königsplatz.

(22:40) Eros has changed the programme so as to gain time: two songs are extended and another song is presented before Tina´s perfomance so that "The best" becomes the last song of the show. We do not know why it takes so long until Tina enters the stage but her show is even better than the day before: like a goddess she glides down the stairs, as wild as always she dances and jumps during "The best" so that Eros can only try to contribute a verse to the song but fails everytime. Tina proves to be real whirlwind. After the show we all meet next to the hot-dog stand and are ready for the next world tour.

(23:45) Tina seems to have vanished into thin air; the green Benz is parked in the garage.

    Monday

As no suspicious car is parked in the garage we draw the conclusion that Tina must have left the Rafael early in the morning. Therefore we spend the day in Munich visiting all the eventful places of the weekend and the Olympiahalle where Tina always performs until we have to go to the airport. Every journey leads us closer to her...
